The Herr Covered Bridge at Millbridge Village on Paradise Lane is for sale by the owner. There has been discussion on what should happen to this oldest and longest covered bridge in Lancaster County, especially the need to remove the northern arch of the bridge that is over the Pequea Creek and in danger of collapse in the next high-water event. The southern arch is fully supported by steel beams and is in no danger of collapse. Lancaster County Commissioners hold an easement on the bridge but do not own the bridge. There is talk of removing the 90-foot northern half of the bridge to the Paradise Park on Londonvale Road, placing it across the Pequea Creek near the west pavilion. Paradise Township has no budget for this project. Is there community interest in keeping the bridge in Paradise Township, or should we encourage other interested parties to remove the endangered arch from the township? We need to hear from any interested parties very soon. Please call 717-768-8222.

A big THANK YOU to all who helped make the 2013 Paradise Community Days a huge success. The ParCD Committee (pronounced "parked," or "parsed") :) of about 17 ad hoc members is working alongside the Township Supervisors, employees, and Township Park & Rec. Committee to enhance community spirit generated by the 300th anniversary of Paradise in 2012, and looks forward to the 2014 Paradise Community Days on June 19, 20, and 21, 2014. Be sure to put it on your calendar!
We had a nice turnout at the Paradise Community Picnic on Friday evening, August 2.  Mahlon Stoltzfus provided chicken BBQ, Henry Fisher and John Beiler roasted locally-grown sweet corn, and Turkey Hill provided cold drinks and ice cream, and hundreds of covered dishes were shared. BlueGRACE ensemble, led by Tim Kilby and Brian Gregg of St. John's UM Church and members from other local churches, provided wonderful bluegrass and country gospel dinner music. The invocation was by the new pastor at the Paradise Bible Fellowship Dave Peters, who was introduced by Kevin High. Fireworks were provided by Brian & Kimmel Schaefer Pyrotechnics. Also, Paradise/Leaman Place "The Outback" Fire Company and Kinzer Fire Company provided assistance in setting up, tearing down, and Stacey Herman & Mike Worst and other Fire Police for traffic control. John Fisher provided space for horses and buggies. Dennis Groff family, Rich & Sally Riehl, and Darrel and Tracy Dippner provided logistics and coordenation, and Constable Ray Sheller security (and serving ice cream.) A big thank you to Allan Rohrer, Jerry Garver, and other Park & Recreation Committee members for excellent grounds, field, and supplies coordenation, and set up by Tom Lichty, Brian and Blaine Stoltzfus. And thanks to Supervisors Matt McClarigan and Marlin Groff and our County Prothonotary Katherine Wood-Jacobs who brought our District 7 Congressman Patrick Meehan and staffer "Kit" Irish (who comes to our Paradise Twp. Office Tuesdays from 9am to 2pm to be available to constituents) and others for serving chicken and ice cream. And a big thank you to Richard Neff and his shiny tractor and Farmland Fun at Verdant View for the wagon rides. And did you get your Paradise History Book or afghan, or other Paradise memorabilia from Crystal Gregg, also available at the Paradise Twp. Office. Now you see how many volunteers (we may have missed a few, sorry!) it takes to pull off an event like this. If you would like to help in future events, let us know, we will be happy to work with you.

There have been questions about the "free meals in Paradise Park on Friday evenings in July." This is offered by Grace Point Church, Keystone Church, and The Factory Ministries and is part of a larger community program open to all that can be found here. Leacock Presbyterian Church also has monthly community meals here.
Thanks to Pig Roast preparers and consumers!
Many hours of work produced a great meal on Saturday...a big thank you to the Fire Co. and to those who "ate in" or the 800+ who "took out." Very successful event!

Paradise Leaman Place Fire Company is hard at work all day Friday and on Sat. from early morning to prepare a PIG ROAST this Saturday, Nov. 17 from 12pm to 6pm Behind Wells Fargo Bank on Rt. 30 and Paradise Post Office. 717-687-7171

Donations of canned or dry food needed for Nov.18...
There has been a huge outpouring of donations of clothing, so that is not needed at this time, and cleaning supplies are ample, too. However, non-perishable food, paper supplies, and cash to help pay for needs of displaced people are being sought, and the next delivery will be on Sunday, Nov. 18 to Staten Island where people are being fed and sheltered till electrical power is restored and homes can be repaired. The truck will be driven by Paradise Leaman Place Firemen, according to Dennis Groff and Nick Lopez.

Thanks to all who donate in so many ways...
It has been a very busy week, good hard work, for Nick Lopez, Sally Riehl, and Dennis Groff at the Paradise Twp. Office, receiving and organizing tons of materials; and many others have helped in so many ways. At 5pm Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 the box truck and two trailer loads of donated products were delivered today to Staten Island collection points for victims of Hurricane Sandy and the trucks are about 30 minutes from home now!
There may be more collected next week, but that decision has not been made yet. Check back here on Tuesday Nov. 13 for further information.

Help for SuperStorm Sandy Victims in NYC and NJ

17:00hs 01.Mar.2010 Snow banks are still being pushed back on narrow roads in the region. The very slow melt is very good for the soil and the ground water and the creeks and rivers, but day time melt can still cause night time black ice. Easy does it, especially on curves and where water puddles...
21:13hs 17.Feb.2010 A very good Town Hall meeting at the Paradise Fire Hall with Senator Mike Brubaker, and the snow is falling making road conditions very slippery again. Careful, careful, careful....
21:32hs 16.Feb.2010 The roads are in fairly good shape now, but the daytime melt can become night time black ice, be extra careful, and please slow down.
11:30hs 15.Feb.2010 Happy President George Washington's Birthday! And President Lincoln's, too. Snow removal from roads continues as west winds blow drifts onto North-South roads. More light snow expected this evening into tonight. Be safe!
06:23hs 12.Feb.2010 Kinzer firefighter Curtis Lapp had an electrical fire in the attic and fortunately had a smoke detector in the attic which triggered before any scent of smoke was noticed on second floor. Snow hampered the Kinzer engines but Gap Fire Company was able to get in by Rt. 772 and saved the house. Cleanup is not scheduled yet, according to Curtis' brother Gene.
18:35hs 11.February.2010 A huge THANK YOU to all those who are helping others to dig out from this giant blizzard. Those who are using their own equipment to push snow, donating their time and effort to help others, and the Paradise Twp. crew who are working hard to get roads open all deserve a BIG round of applause. Thanks too for the cooperation of the public in driving safely as all this work is being done.
10:15hs 11.February.2010 UPDATE: Some north-south roads closed

06:00hs 11.February.2010 Blizzard has ended but digging out continues! Be safe!
